Whatever happened to the plunge? Once the apogee of complex engaging in their dinky quartered tubs, these gloopy blends – thousand island, cheddar and chive, the memorial park of a million fragmented Pringles – were unobtrusively deposed, at some point in the late 2000s, by an attack from the eastern Mediterranean: salmon pink taramasalata, garlicky tzatziki and, best of all, hummus, the shading and surface of wet mortar.
